Amazon comes to grab online shopping space in India
TT Correspondent |  |  06 Jun 2013

The Seattle based online shopping giant Amazon has taken another stride in India’s ecommerce space by launching  its site in the country after  making its presence felt in February  2012 through Junglee.com, enabling retailers in India to advertise their products for free to millions of Indian shoppers.

To begin with it will sell books, movies and TV shows video products and in coming weeks will expand its marketing space to accommodate  additional categories including mobile phones and cameras.

Amazon said this will provide online shopping experience and Indian retailers of all sizes a robust and scalable platform to sell their products online with no listing fees and a pay-as-you-go fulfillment services.

“Our vision, at Amazon, is to be Earth's most customer centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online. With Amazon.in, we endeavor to build that same destination in India by giving customers more of what they want – vast selection, low prices, fast and reliable delivery, and a trusted and convenient experience,” said Greg Greeley, Vice President of International Expansion at Amazon.com.

Amazon.in Book store features over 7 million print books across 200 plus categories including fiction, management, children’s books and academic publications. Customers can expect to find complete collections from several national and international authors like Amish Tripathi, Chetan Bhagat, Ashwin Sanghi, Dan Brown, Jeffrey Archer, J. K Rowling, Paulo Coelho, Salman Rushdie including the latest best-selling new releases like And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini, Manuscript Found in Accra by Paulo Coelho and Inferno by Dan Brown.

Amazon said that the  customers can search and preview the text inside more than 1.3 million books through its Search inside! feature, offering customers an entirely new way to find and discover the books they want. This coupled with the author and customer reviews sourced from Amazon.com and personalized recommendations helps customers find the perfect book.

Commenting on the launch of Amazon.in, Amish Tripathi, celebrated author of the bestseller Shiva Trilogy, said “India is one of the fastest growing markets in the global publishing industry. But publishers and authors need to find new readers to sustain the growth momentum. Amazon has set benchmarks for innovation and efficiency in sales internationally and I look forward to seeing their work in India as well.”

Likewise, the Movies & TV shows store features a collection of over 12,000 titles in English and Hindi across DVD, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and Video CD formats.
