With crime against women rising day by day, tech companies are coming out with new apps to address their concerns. Keeping this in mind Industry body Nasscom on Wednesday launched a number of Facebook apps and mobile phone which can help women in distress.
Women who need help can send distress message and all this needs is a press of a button.
Nasscom in January 2012 had launched App Fame Contest and chose 10 safety apps in 2013 edition on Wednesday. They were chosen from 75 entries from across India. This includes an app called ‘Go Surakhsheit' developed by a Gurgaon-based Hughes Systique Corporation.
Apart from this, "Nirbhaya" developed by Pune-based Smart Cloud Infotech Limited was also selected and appreciated. Others include Sentinel by Technosol Pvt Ltd, SafeBridge by Telerik India, FightBack by Tech Mahindra, One Touch SOS by Ideophone, inE by Rain Concert Technologies Pvt. Ltd, iFollow by Aucupa Innovative Solutions, SafeTrac by KritiLabs and PanicGuard by PanicGuard Ltd were Nasscom will help the winners reach out to maximum number of women through appropriate platforms.
Som Mittal, President, Nasscom, said that the safety of women of paramount importance given their growing participation in IT industry which has set the benchmark for global practices around recruiting, retaining and retraining women.
