Google has finally recognized the significance of Indian languages. In May Marathi spoken by more than 73 million was added to Google Translate. Now, Google has announced beta support for Hindi handwriting. It means the user can switch to a native Hindi experience for his/her Android device like mobile and tablet.

For smartphone owners all they have to do is to go to www.google.co.in in mobile browser, tap on “Settings” at the bottom of the screen, go to Search Settings and enable “Handwrite.” the they need to change language in Google products to Hindi add “Hindi” as a Language of Search Results.

On tablets once the feature is enabled, one needs to tap the Handwrite icon on the bottom right corner of your screen to activate Handwrite mode. “Write a few letters and you’ll see auto complete options appear below the search box. If one of the options is what you’re looking for, just tap it to search”.
Google said that that this would make the Hindi internet simpler to use. The user will be able to use the internet in Hindi as easily as one reads and writes today.

It said that Handwrite enables the user to search by just writing letters with the finger or stylus anywhere on device’s screen. There’s no keyboard that covers half of the screen and no need for typing.
Google said that this would bring 300 million more Indian users online. As of now less than 10% of internet usage is in Indian languages while in the offline world more than 90% of newspaper readers or TV viewers are using these media in Indian languages.
