Scartel and Huawei ready to launch VoLTE in Russia
TT Correspondent |  |  29 Aug 2013

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, has announced that it helped Russian mobile operator, Scartel, successfully implement VoLTE (voice over LTE) with a SRVCC (Single Radio Voice Call Continuity) solution.

Following implementation of the solution, Scartel is now technologically capable of supporting voice calls on its LTE network.

SRVCC implements a handover function that enables LTE voice call continuity in 2G/3G networks without any perceivable interruptions for the end user. This allows Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) that use Scartel’s LTE network to support voice calls.

VoLTE improves overall sound quality and call reliability, and provides high voice connection speeds. With VoLTE, voice calls can be established in only two seconds, much faster than traditional 2G/3G network setups.

Egor Ivanov, Chief Executive Officer of Scartel, said, "For each project we select the most suitable technology platform and partner. For the launch of VoLTE, we selected Huawei Technologies as our technology partner. Huawei received the ’Best New VoLTE Product Launch’ award at IMS World Forum 2012, so we knew that we had chosen the right partner for the project."

Huawei provides an end-to-end network solution for Scartel that covers the radio access network, Circuit Switch (CS) core network, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Evolved Packet Core (EPC), and Huawei’s Ascend P1 smartphone.

According to Infonetics Research, 12 commercial networks with the ability to support 8 million subscribers using VoLTE are expected to be deployed worldwide by the end of 2013. Huawei is involved in implementing VoLTE for the majority of these networks.
