Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider has said that Ms. Yang Zhao of Huawei’s Wireless Network Business Unit was recently elected chairwoman of the 3GPP GERAN (GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network) Working Group 2 (WG2) responsible for protocol aspects of GERAN at the WG2’s fifty-eighth meeting.
Yang Zhao is the youngest ever elected 3GPP chairwoman. Since 2005, Ms. Yang Zhao has participated in multiple 3GPP activities for various wireless technologies including GELTE (GERAN-LTE interworking), M2M (machine-to-machine), smartphone enhancements, group communications, network sharing, and GAN (Generic Access Network). She has made significant contributions to wireless standards and technologies.
According to 3GPP, Huawei has contributed the most approved LTE Core Specification since 2010, more than 10% over the second largest contributor. Huawei currently holds 90 key positions from chairperson and board member to rapporteur within numerous major international technology standards organizations, including 3GPP, APT, AWG, ETSI, IEEE, IETF, ITU, Wi-Fi Alliance and WWRF.
