Telenor, Videocon, and MTS must be feeling cheated by the Indian system. Telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI) today slashed reserve price of spectrum in 1800 MHz band by about 50 per cent from the price of Rs 14,000 crore fixed for November 2012 auction.
Telenor and MTS had no option but to buy spectrum in seven circles each as there was threat of discontinuation of their services following a Supreme Court order dated February, 2012 that cancelled their licences.
Then in March, 2013 MTS had to buy spectrum at high price in eight circles, again under threat of cancellation of its licences.
Now, within six months, the TRAI has proposed reducing reserve price by almost 50% to Rs 1,496 crore per MHz in 1800 band.
Hope, the people who were championing 2G scam case and the appropriate Indian system – Judiciary, Comptroller and Auditor general (CAG), and the government looks at their case sympathetically and ensures that there is no injustice to these companies. Otherwise, it will be quoted as a classical example of blackmailing of these companies by Indian system. |
