Aircel enters into strategic pact with Micromax to drive data growth

Aircel, one of India’s leading telecom players, has joined hands with Micromax, India’s leading handset manufacturer, to drive data growth in the country.

The partnership is aimed at getting 4-5 Lakh device users per month. Under this new partnership, Aircel and Micromax will share their cannel and retail networks, sales resources and run an integrated device sales activation program.

The partnership is expected to give a boost to revenues of both the companies with the mobile internet penetration increasing rapidly.

Micromax which is launching a phone almost every week for the last few months sells 2.3 million smart phones every month. According to Ajay Sharma, Smart phone Division Head, Micromax, the tie-up can result in the further growth of nearly 20-25 per.

They also introduced reverse bundling handset Offers worth Rs. 12000 per month for every new Aircel customer. Aircel’s focus on data innovation and its expertise in mobile network, along-with Micromax’s expertise in device marketing will redefine the user experience and take data penetration to the next level.

Aircel has cut its data rates for Micromax customers who opt for the offer. The smartphone owners have been offered  2GB data per month for free where as its has slashes tariff rates  to one paise per two seconds for local calls and one paise per second for STD calls. This offer, along with other similar offers for feature phones and dongles, is valid for three months.

Anupam Vasudev, Chief Marketing Officer, Aircel, said, “India is at the cusp of a data revolution and device tie-ups will strengthen the telecom ecosystem in the country, which is critical to drive data penetration.” 

According to a recent study, by the year 2020, mobile internet users are set to grow 4 - 5 times and smartphone penetration is set to increase 5 times to 50% in India. Affordability in devices will give a rise to data proliferation which will be the main revenue generator for both telecom operators as well as handset manufacturers in the near future.
