JPC gives clean chit to PM in 2G case

The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the 2G spectrum scam on Friday expectedly gave a clean chit to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G scam.

The committee adopted by the report 16-11 vote in favour of government with two members, both from the Janata Dal (United), abstained from voting, while BJP’s Gopinath Munde not appearing for the meeting.

The report heaped blame on the former telecom minister A. Raja under whose tenure in 2008, the controversial 2G spectrum licenses were allocated. The process of allocation was believed to be rigged.

It is learnt that those opposed the report would give their dissent note till October 10. After careful examination, these notes along with main report would be presented to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.

The report would then be tabled in the Parliament in the winter session after it was forwarded to the government by the speaker.
