Vodafone loses 6.1 lakh mobile customers in July

India’s leading telecom operator Vodafone lost 6.1 lakh mobile customers in July with its subscriber base falling to 15.44 crore from 15.5 crore in June, according to data provided by Trai.

Uninor and Videocon added 4.63 lakh and 3.53 lakh new mobile customers respectively. They overtook Idea with latter’s net subscriber addition standing at 3 lakh in July over its base in June.

The subscriber base of Tata Teleservices, State-run MTNL and Sistema Shyam continued to dip. While TTSL lost 5.62 lakh subscribers, MTNL 2.45 lakh and Sistema lost 1.84 lakh customers from their network.

BSNL and Loop whose subscriber base declined in June added 73,767 and 43,793 customers respectively in July.

According to Trai, total mobile subscriber base in India increased from 873.36million in June 2013 to 874.88million at the end of July 2013, registering a monthly growth of 0.17%.

The share of urban wireless subscribers has increased from 59.80% to 60.10% whereas share of rural wireless subscribers has decreased from 40.20% to 39.90%. The overall wireless Teledensity in India has reached71.13 from 71.08 of previous month.

Overall, the number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 903.09million at the end of June, 2013 to 904.46million at the end of July 2013, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.15%. The share of urban subscribers has increasedfrom60.40% to60.68% whereas share of rural subscribers has declinedfrom 39.60%to 39.32% in the month of July 2013. With this, the overall Teledensity in India slightly increased from73.50 at the end of June, 2013to 73.54at the end of July, 2013.

As per the data reported by the service providers, by the end of July 2013 about 97.82million subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their mobile number.
