Google is India's most attractive internet brand followed by Yahoo and Facebook: Study
TT Correspondent |  |  25 Oct 2013

Google, an American multinational corporation specializing in Internet-related services and products, is India's most attractive internet brand, according to a study by TRA (Trust Research Advisory) followed by Yahoo and Facebook.

The fact that internet user base in the country is growing at the fierce pace is evident from the TRAI’s latest data according to which total broadband subscriber base in the country has increased from 15.19 million at the end of June 2013 to 15.24 million at the end of July 2013.

“India's is becoming an Internet country. With a growth of 31% over last year, the 74 million Internet users in India have helped it surpass Japan to become the world's third largest internet user base after China and US” says the TRA report titled India's Most Attractive Brands.

It says that Yahoo rides on the back of its recent changes to get ranked as India's 2nd Most Attractive Internet brand. The difference between the first and second ranked is 64% in terms of Attractiveness Quotient. These results are based on a primary survey conducted by TRA (Trust Research Advisory) published in a report titled India's Most Attractive Brands.

The internet potential is only set to explode considering that India's mobile phone penetration is predicted to reach a penetration of 72% by 2016 in a recent report by Gartner. Speaking about the choices in Internet brands, N. Chandramouli, CEO, TRA, said, "The surprise result in this list is Yahoo’s 2nd rank among India’s Most Attractive brands beating even Facebook. Yahoo's second rank shows that the new strategies being adopted by it are working, and working well at that. If this brand continues to move in the direction that it has set in the recent past, it is on a sure footing to regain its popularity back soon."

India's 3rd Most Attractive Internet brand is Facebook, 11% behind Yahoo in Attractiveness Quotient, followed by Nimbuzz at 4th rank. India's 5th Most Attractive brand is GMail, followed by Zapak.Com at 6th rank. Wikipedia, the collaborative encyclopaedia ranks as India's 7th Most Attractive Internet brand. Just making it into the top 1000, ranked All-India 998th is Amazon, as India's 8th Most Attractive brand.

The primary research was conducted with 2505 consumer-influencers across 16 cities based on TRA's proprietary matrix of Attractiveness Quotient based on 36 Traits. TRA, a Comniscient Group company, is an actionable insights and brand intelligence company dedicated to understanding and analyzing stakeholder behaviour through two globally acclaimed, proprietary matrices of Brand Trust and Brand Attractiveness.
