Global SMS likely to generate $165 billion revenue by 2011, forecasts Acision

Revenue generated through mobile messaging is expected to hike to 165 billion dollars by 2011 forecasts Acision, a global messaging firm. According to Acision, messaging service has tremendous growth in Western Europe and South East Asia. The company has also laid down five step action plan from telecom operators to double their messaging revenue for the coming four years. The steps comprises of- personalizing the messaging experience, forming tie-ups to expand mobile messaging to the fixed environment with converged messaging, subsidizing revenues generated through mobile internet, mobilizing enterprise applications and controlling the mobile marketing opportunities.

The original press release said "global messaging revenues" not SMS alone. Guess Acision is looking at a little more than plain SMS alone here...

But even I feel there is significant business potential in case of international SMS hubbing,:-one-way/ two-way communication

'I agree with Banibrata. That is wt I was trying to communicate. VASP needs to get better rev. share and so that can invest more in better infrastructure, cust. care and VAS development and promotion.. Otherwise VC funding to VASP is dring up in India and may stop completly without true success stories from the industry A common forum to gather all VASP could be of great help just like COAI or may be little more powerful to safegurad interest of VASP, to make sure end customer gets best quality services consistently, services get more standardized, lead time required for common short code across operators gets rationalized and so on..'
