The Telecom Commission on Wednesday proposed to raise the reserved price for 1800 MHz by 15% higher than recommended by Telecom Authority of India (TRAI). For 900 megahertz band, it recommended the price 25% more.
In September TRAI had recommended about 60 per cent reduction for the reserve price for spectrum in the 900 megahertz band in some important cities. It also suggested a 37 per cent cut in the reserve price for spectrum in the 1800 megahertz band.
Last month TRAI reiterated its earlier proposals for reduction in the reserve prices in an upcoming spectrum auction.
The government panel also approved the M&A policy which means combined telcos can hold up to 50 percent market share in each circle. It now needs the cabinet approval.
On spectrum pricing EGoM will take the final call. The government is aiming to garner Rs 11,000 crore from spectrum auction.
The panel also decided to go ahead with 800 MHZ spectrum auction. Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd (SSTL) which received its Unified Telecom License last month welcomed the decision of the Telecom Commission to auction the 800 Mhz spectrum band. |
