The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on telecom Friday gave its nod to the Telecom Commission’s recommendations for raising reserve price for the spectrum auction to be held in January up to 25 percent.
“The EGoM has accepted the reserve price recommendations of the Telecom Commission,” telecom minister Kapil Sibal said.
After the tepid response to the first two rounds of spectrum auction in November, the government is aiming for Rs. 11,300 crore in the next round of auction.
Earlier this month, the Telecom Commission proposed to hike the reserved price for 1800 MHz by 15% higher than recommended by Telecom Authority of India (TRAI). For 900 megahertz band, it recommended the price 25% more.
In September TRAI had recommended about 60 per cent reduction for the reserve price for spectrum in the 900 megahertz band in some important cities. It also suggested a 37 per cent cut in the reserve price for spectrum in the 1800 megahertz band.
Last month TRAI reiterated its earlier proposals for reduction in the reserve prices in an upcoming spectrum auction. |
