PepsiCo has appointed Nokia's former operations head for India D Shivakumar as its chairman and CEO, India Region. Shivakumar will replace Manu Anand.
Shivakumar looked after the beleaguered handset major's operations in about 90 countries. Before moving to a global role in late 2011, Shivakumar was heading Nokia's operations in India.
Prior to joining Nokia India in 2006, he was heading the consumer electronics business of Philips.
He quit Nokia when the company was globally struggling to combat the onslaught of smartphone makers led by South Korea's Samsung and US-based Apple.
According to figures from IDC, it had 49% share of the Indian handset market in 2006, which peaked under Shivakumar at 56% in 2008, amid a significant expansion in the overall market size. |
