Huawei helps Telecom New Zealand to launch ultra mobile 4G LTE
TT Correspondent |  |  12 Dec 2013

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, has said that it helped Telecom New Zealand launch a new "Ultra Mobile" 4G LTE network that can provide speeds of up to 150 Mb/s to mobile subscribers in parts of cities Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

Huawei provided a convergent radio access network (RAN) technology solution for the network with an accompanying operations management platform that will provide an impressive overall speed boost for Telecom's customers. The solution is based on Huawei's SingleRAN technology which allows for easy leveraging of LTE spectrum as it becomes available.

Telecom has made access to the 4G network free for all of its current subscribers who have 4G-capable devices. The operator recognizes that the network's faster data will quickly become the "new normal" for New Zealanders who have embraced smart devices.

Tim Miles, CEO of Telecom's enterprise business arm Gen-i, said 4G would help to feed growing demand for new applications which leverage the high speeds, while the seamless integration of the 4G network with 3G, fiber and Wi-Fi into a single platform for mobility would deliver a superior overall experience for customers.

Arthur Zhang, CEO of Huawei New Zealand, said Telecom's 4G network utilizes cutting-edge wireless technologies: "We have worked closely with Telecom to create a network with an exceptional performance and we are honored to be providing technology which will help transform the mobile broadband experience for Telecom's customers. 4G is a transformative technology which enables new ways for New Zealanders to connect and do business."
