Telecom major, Bharti Airtel, may sell off its mobile towers in Nigeria for about $550 million by April. It is the biggest revenue generating market for the company in Africa, an ET report said.
The newspaper has quoted industry sources to suggest the proposed sale of towers in the country.
Bharti Airtel has around 5000 towers in Nigeria and according to sources it is in talks with Helios Tower & IHS for the sale. The company had about 14,000 mobile towers in Africa across 17 countries at the end of March 2013.
It is believed that the company is selling its mobile tower asset in Africa for about $2 billion to pay off its huge debts which, according to one report is Rs 60,877 crore at the end of September 2013.
Nigeria contributed about 30 per cent revenue to Airtel's Africa business in its 2012 and 2013 fiscal year.
Airtel had reported wider net losses from the African business. Its Africa revenue had however increased. |
