After the mixed reaction of Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. Samsung bounce back with Tizen OS to boost the sales of their next Galaxy Gear 2 Smartwatch instead of Android OS. Tizen was launched by Samsung last year, with the Samsung NX300M camera the first consumer device to run it.
However, none of this information is official yet. The USA Today’s sources say it will though. Samsung will be holding its first Unpacked event of 2014 in Barcelona on February 24, so if the Gear 2 is coming, we’d expect to see it announced there, potentially alongside the Galaxy S5 smartphone as well.
Tizen is a joint project between Samsung and Intel, and although it has been pushed as a mobile OS, it’s also quite at home on other devices, including televisions and cameras.
Tizen is an operating system based on Linux that "provides a robust and flexible environment for application developers, based on HTML5." It's different than Android.
To come up with Tizen OS allows Samsung to slowly break its ties with Google as it becomes its own dominating hardware and software firm. Introducing Tizen through a Galaxy Gear Smartwatch 2 is a good move to start its new journey. |
