OPPO India has announced that their latest smartphone from the R series, the OPPO R5 will hit the Indian stores in the month of December 2014. OPPO had unveiled the R5 on the 29th of October 2014 in Singapore. The smartphone is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 25,000 – Rs. 30,000.
Packing leading technologies and flagship specifications in an ultra-thin body which measures at just 4.85mm, the R5 sets the record as one of the thinnest phones in the world yet again. In addition to the smartphone’s thickness, another major highlight of the phone is the adoption of higher-strength stainless steel in place of the commonly used aluminum alloy to make its unique micro-arc frame. The process used to create a more rugged and durable frame lets this ultra-thin phone “say no to bending” and overcomes the weakness generally found in ultra-thin phones. Now consumers can slip the phone into their pockets and sit at ease without fear of it being bent.
It could be said that a phone’s frame is its skeleton. If it is not made of strong material with a high quality, the phone may fall subject to damage easily. The norm throughout the industry has been to use aluminum alloy for the frame, case and accessories due to its high degree of plasticity. The conservation of space is of the utmost importance when constructing an ultra-thin smartphone.
Along with the sophisticated components, space must be reserved for SIM card slots, volume buttons and the power button. These parts of the device, though necessary, leave the phone at risk of damage to the frames integrity when constructed from conventional aluminum alloy materials. As a result, new frame solutions were required to be implemented when constructing the R5. |
