Make in India: Rs 6000 Cr of projects approved to boost digital empowerment in small towns and rural areas
Manoj Gairola |  New Delhi |  13 Feb 2015

“The Minister for Communication and IT has said that, India has received proposals worth Rs.21,000 crore from companies under the Union government’s Make in India programme. Of this, Rs.6,000 crore of proposals have already been cleared.

Union IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “India imports around $100 billion worth of electronic equipment, which is expected to go up to $400 billion by 2020 and also attempt to connect 50,000 gram panchayats in next three years by laying cable networks and connecting them through broadband services would empower the real India”

The digital India and ‘make in India’ drives would enable the country to attain the domestic IT turnover of more than $100 billion, which at present comes from abroad, in less than three to five years, Prasad said.

We are also working to open BPOs in small towns and rural areas and government will motivate private parties to open BPOs at small towns which is also a strong enabler for job creation and digital empowerment of people.
