The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), on Wednesday issued 6th amendment to the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulation, 2009 which will facilitate full MNP (PAN India Portability) in the country from 3rd May 2015.
Earlier TRAI made recommendation to the Department of Telecom (DoT) for implementation of Full MNP/National MNP and suggested amendments in the licenses of MNP service providers and mobile service providers.
Accordingly, on 3rd November 2014, the DoT has issued amendments to the MNP License Agreement. As per the DoT, the full MNP is to be implemented in the country within a period of 6 months from the date of amendment to the Licenses, i.e. 3rd May 2015.
Now, mobile subscribers will be able to port their numbers anywhere in the country while changing service providers. MNP currently allows consumers to change their service provider while retaining the same number only within a telecom circle, which in most cases, is limited to a state.
For Example, a person shifting from Delhi to Mumbai will be able to retain the same mobile number while selecting a service provider in Mumbai. |
