Day 6: Telecom spectrum auction bids moderate to Rs 92,200 crore

Spectrum auction day six, 6 rounds of bidding were completed on Tuesday bid reached Rs 92,200 crore in all four spectrum bands at the end of till now 37 rounds were completed on the sixth day of the auction.

At the end of day five, 31 rounds of bidding were completed on Monday, bid reached Rs 94,000 crore, bid for the spectrum auction on day six dropped by around Rs 2,000 crore.

The surplus demand in 1800 MHz band, increased in spectrum allocation but the price has been slightly decreased and also a good response towards 800 MHz band as well.

In 1,800 MHz band also saw activity in Gujarat and Kerala regions.

In the 800 MHz band, of 20 circles - 14 have seen activity. In 2,100 MHz band, of 17 circles - 14 circles have seen activity as well. In the 900 MHz band - all 17 circles have seen activity, whereas in 1,800 MHz band, of 20 circles - 13 circles have seen activity till the end of day 6 in spectrum auction.

83% of the spectrum has been provisionally allocated to bidders at the end of day six, 37 rounds of bidding were completed.

From the current situation, the government expects to mop up more than Rs 100,000 crore from the auction.

Seven licenses each of Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications, four licenses of Bharti Airtel and six licenses of Vodafone will complete their 20-year term in December 2015, after which they have to be renewed.

This revenue collected in any auction till now and will help the current government to easily meet its fiscal deficit target of 4.1% of the GDP in this fiscal.

But the Supreme Court also order that the auction results can be declared only with the court's approval has left many uncertain as well.

The order also said that no winner can claim any "equity" just because it won a bid and the next hearing is on March 26.
