Vodafone adds highest number of subscribers in July
TT Correspondent |  |  30 Aug 2018

India No 2 telecom carrier Vodafone added more than 6 lakh new subscribers, highest among incumbent service providers, followed by market-leader Bharti Airtel which gained 3.13 lakh subscribers in July.

Vodafone India added 609,054 new consumers and Bharti Airtel's subscriber base increased to 313,284 in July, industry group Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) in a statement said.

However, Aditya Birla group’s Idea Cellular's consumer base increased by mere 5,489 during the month.

New additions led India’s total subscriber base to increase to 1004.08 million with Sunil Mittal-driven Bharti Airtel leading the pack with a total of 344.88 million subscribers.

UP East circle remains the highest number of mobile subscribers with 86.72 million connections, according to the Delhi-based group.

The finding excluded Reliance Jio’s July figure but, however, added that new player’s subscriber base stands at 215,255,701.

COAI director general Rajan S Mathews said “India is today at the cusp of digital revolution, buoyed by the government’s Digital India initiative. As the country prepares itself for next-gen technologies such as 5G, the role of the telecom sector will further evolve and advance”.
