Cheap Chinese mobile phones come under scanner over fake IMEI number
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  25 Sep 2008

In wake of recent terror attacks in the county and subsequent investigations it has emerged that cheap Chinese mobile phones available across the country are turning out to be nuisance to the security agencies. The reason is that such phones have fake International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number.

This makes the task of tracing calls very difficult for the law enforcement agencies and investigators. Reports say that the Intelligence Bureau has recommended to the Home Ministry and the DoT that the sales of such handsets be banned immediately.
