Telecom shares suffer a blow amidst SENSEX slid, Spice Communications drops by 26%

Telecom sector suffered a major slid in shares of the listed firms amidst the overall SENSEX slid witnessed for today. While the SENSEX hit a new low for two-years today, it also took along with it shares of telcos which witnessed slumps by as much as 26 % in some cases.

 

While Bharti Airtel (-3.77%) managed to keep its slid below the 4 % mark for the day, fierce competitor Reliance Communications (RCom)  saw its share price slid by more than 10 percent at 10.62 % on the BSE. Sterlite Opticals too saw its share value erode by 15.26 % on the BSE.

 

But the biggest loser for the day in telecom sector turned out to be Spice Communications which witnessed a fall of more than 26 percent, 26.59 % to be precise on the BSE and 28.91 % on the NSE.

 

Only VSNL (Tata Communications) managed to keep its head above water as it witnessed its stock to close at marginal high of 1.98 % on the BSE as well as at 2.33 % on the NSE.
