Telstra claims to offer 21Mbps downlink speed by year end
TT Bureau |  |  07 Oct 2008

Telstra Corporation on Tuesday said that it has successfully completed connectivity testing between network infrastructure equipment and mobile device technology for its planned network upgrade to Enhanced HSPA (eHSPA).

The test was conducted on a wireless infrastructure network solution from Ericsson using Qualcomm''s MDM8200 product, believed to be the industry's first chipset solution to support eHSPA devices.

Upon employing Telstra’s network, Next generation users will enjoy peak downlink speed of 21 Mbps by the end of the year, while normal customers will experience lesser speed, owing to factors like congestion, distance from the cell, local conditions, hardware, software and others.

Melbourne- based Telstra further added that Australians using the Telstra network will be the first in the world to experience peak downlink speeds of 21Mbps by year end.
