D. P. Singh resigns from Datacom
TT Bureau |  |  14 Nov 2008

D P Singh, head of supply chain in Datacom has resigned. In Datacom, he was responsible for procurement of equipment and logistics. For a new telecom operator, who has yet to set up a network, head of supply chain is an important position.

He joined Datacom from Alcatel Lucent, where he was heading supply chain.

The two promoters of Datacom, Videocon’s Dhoot and Mahendra Nahata are fighting in public and ultimately it is the company which is suffering. Last month, Datacom’s CEO Ravi Sharma resigned.

Singh was not available for comments. His next move is not yet known.

There is firm news that he was asked to resign because of unprofessional and unethical attitude. His exist will hardly make any adverse impact on working of Datacom. However Datacom must involve Mr Nahata fully to utilize his experience in telecom industry for more than 20 years. Togather Dhoots and Nahatas will gain.

Datacom can not progress till Dhoot and Nahta resolve fight. However it looks impossible considering greed of Dhoot who, as per ET report, in the first place did not honour agreement with Nahta. And now, it is believed that Dhoot is not fulfilling second agreement with Nahta where he is supposed to buy Nahta shares. Dhoot,s greed and his untrustworthiness will make Datacom loose all its shine.

Bechare ko beizzat kar ke nikal diya. He took so many people from Alcatel-lucent to Datacom and now left them in the middle with nowhere to go except his immediate chamchas. Dhoot ji ab to Nahata se haath milalo aur logon ki budduaon se bacho.

I have a placement company. In my view important question is not to know if an employee is professional. The important question to ask if the promoter is professional and ethical. All the employees looking for job outside strongly confirm that Mr. RN Dhoot is completely unprofessional. My suggestion to him is to practice professionalism to stop attrition from his company. No wonder that not a single employee has joined datacom in last one month.

In a way it is better that Ravi sharma and his team (the SCM team) resigned.. This would be the end of Politics @ Datacom

Who said that DP was the only person to have resigned from Datacom. Others who have resigned from Datacom because of negative atmosphere there are Chief Legal Officer and Chief Information Officer

these negatie news are only going to affect datacom advresely . many senior people leaving any organization is definately not a good news for any professional organization. Deepu seems you are part of datacom team so have very presonal views and feedback which itself shows the unprofessional culture your organization. kindly come out of this negativity and think a bit high level and positively for your organization

Promoters could not retain high profile & dynamic senior professionals; it seems that promoters started comparing GSM with B&W TV. Infact they have expertise in selling B&W TV & it will be good for them if they focus on compete ting with Beltek/ Salora/ Televista & Oscar etc. Best wishes for Mr Ravi Sharma and Mr DP Singh. arun

DP Singh is a professional in every respect. I, as a Supplier in the Telecom Domain can say that he and his team carried themselves with all the dignity and professionalism. Focused on high business standards and ethics, he was certainly not cut out for an organization like Datacom. Datacom does not know what it has lost with D P Singh opting out. Let's now see how far can Datacom go and how soon it can launch its network when people like DP are not there to navigate them anymore. GOD SAVE THE SHORT SIGHTED MANAGEMENT OF DATACOM. To me it seems Datacom is now TATA to COM(unications) BUSINESS

NEWS SAYS "he was responsible for procurement of equipment and logistics" Was DP capable of negotiations for EQUIPMENT?? He doesnt know anything about GSM technology... Tranportation :- He doesnt know more than logistics of Pick drop facilities of employees. DP left for only one reason..... he was exposed about his shortcomings on subject knowledge. RS & DP went upto the hill for big money slaughter RS fell down & broke his crown... DP came tumbling after.........

I hope all those putting in their comments and observations for the above article have some understanding of the telecom industry and happen to know the professionals under discussion. Also, would request you not to put in information that does not have any substance. People like Rajinder Kumar should know that Datacom does not have a Chief Legal Officer, and the CIO is still very much with Datacom. Also, lets not forget that none of the new operators are in a better situation, with Rohit Chandra moving on from Aircel in no time. Request all to kindly ascertain facts before putting them on record. This forum surely is not for washing one's own dirt laundry in public.

HARI PUTTAR need a kick on his back.Award him with position of head Procurement and administration in datacom as it seems that he has its expertise in it. Ask him to work for 6 months in datacom and see the flood of stupid comments on telecom tiger for him. Only then he will undserstand that its easy to crack jokes on others.

what do you all know about dhoots? what is professionalism do you all understand meaning of this word? dhhots should sell only B/w tv what do you understand about b/w tv market /industry.? now to get some facts right dhoots are hard nosed investors who does not invest in professionals but in entreprenuers if so called dp singh or anybody else ravi sharma etc have those skillsets they would have been creating history under dhoots rather than becoming history themselves. if somebody wants success under dhoots than one should be very high on entreprenuer skillsets. Professionalism is it reporting to another professional? or be your own mentor under healty investment atmosphere. most of us would go for later provided you have content and fire. consumer durable how is it less professional or easier than telecom? if somebody who is good in mapping industry can throw light on will be beneficial to all? all strategic modals be it porters law or nelbuff model of industry attractiveness will convince that consumer durable industry is a real bloodbath and to survive that too with 12 brands in videocon portfolio it is some marketing and strategic marvel which most of you will not be even aware of. people leaving datacom is primarily because of honymoon period is now over and time for delievry has come people with poor muscle control will always detest the birth of a child !!!!!

I know the level of professionalism Dhoots have. The only Dhoot whom i feel is professional Is Mr VN Dhoot and i respect him for that. They make money from factories which are mostly in Tax free zones and show losses on sales. And How do they judge the entrepreneur skills by the no of years people have spent with the company. Where is any other professional company you will see skill developements from an Executive Assistant to Head HR and then Head Marketing and then back as Head HR.Where in the world you see people being shunted around from core expertise to other domain. Fingering is fine till the time it is pleasure or else it becomes bothersome. We all are professional who have spent so many years and making many most of the brands we worked reach a certain level.
