Finnish handset maker Nokia said it has joined forces with US-based computer software company Adobe Systems Incorporated to found a $10 million mobile open source project, with the objective of stepping up mobile content, applications and services.

Announced at the ongoing GSM Association (GSMA) Mobile World Congress, the project will be seen delivering new content and services via the Adobe Flash platform.

The new proposal is a product of the Open Screen Project, an industry-wide initiative of more than 20 industry leaders, to enable a consistent experience for web browsing and standalone applications.

Annotating on the project, David Wadhwani, general manager and vice-president for the platform business unit at Adobe said, “We are excited about the Open Screen Project Fund and the possibilities it offers to designers and developers worldwide.”

Commenting further, Tero Ojanpera, EVP at Nokia Services said, “The Open Screen Project Fund encourages the use of Adobe tools and existing developer skills to create exciting and unique Flash applications for millions of Nokia devices.”

The other members of Open Screen Project are expected to join the new fund in the days to come.
