Sandip Das, CEO of Malaysia-based Maxis Communications said today that the company will invest about $ 10 billion for the expansion of its Indian joint venture with Apollo Hospital, Aircel.
The announcement came coinciding with Aircel’s launch in Delhi circle. Aircel is undertaking a pan-India expansion exercise of its mobile services. After covering the Southern region, the company is now in the process of spreading its wings in the northern part of the country.
Sandip Das added that currently $ 5 billion have already been invested towards Aircel expansion program. Aircel now aims to be present in 18 out of the 22 circles in India in the next few days and across all the 22 circles within next 24 months. The Delhi launch marked the company’s entry in 14th circle.
“To address the needs of SMEs and professionals, we will offer a user-friendly recharge scheme that will enable them make calls and messages absolutely free of cost across Aircel across our local network and make STD calls at 50 paise from one Aircel to another,” said Aircel COO Gurdeep Singh.
The company also plans to offer free incoming calls to its subscribers while on roaming within Aircel networks. Further local calls to other networks can be made at 50 paise and long distance calls at Re.1.
