A consortium comprising of Cisco, the Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications Co. (PLDT) and Tata Communications is to be considered to help roll out the first public TelePresence service in the Philippines, allowing more organizations in the country to leverage this video-based communications technology.
The TelePresence service, which will be operated by PLDT, will join Tata Communications’ growing global network of public TelePresence rooms, which currently includes Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai, Hyderabad Gurgaon in India; Boston in the U.S.; and London in the U.K.
Further, PLDT’s Public Studio Telepresence will also be able to connect to Cisco’s Public TelePresence Suite in Santa Clara, California in the U.S. PLDT will also offer Private Managed TelePresence services for organizations that want to have their own private TelePresence rooms. This strategic tie between Cisco and PLDT will enable more domestic companies use TelePresence through PLDT’s Private Managed TelePresence Services.
Commenting on the collaboration, Stephen Misa, country manager of Cisco Philippines said, “We are very excited with this collaboration with PLDT and Tata as it makes Cisco TelePresence more accessible to Filipinos. This technology is changing the way individuals and organizations collaborate with each other across long distances and we are certain this opens up a window of opportunities for our country.” |
