Christened Mondi, the fledgling operates on Windows Mobile 6.1, and it has a 4.3-inch LCD touch display, 4GB of onboard memory and hardware QWERTY keyboard.
Additionally, the handset can support both Wi-Fi, a short range high-speed wireless technology and WiMax, a fast emerging wide-area technology. The Mondi comes preloaded with Opera 9.5 and Route66 for turn-by-turn GPS and will be bundled with a mounting kit for car use.
Samsung’s senior vice president of strategy and product management, Omar Khan said the Mondi is the first of several WiMax devices from Samsung this year.
With a customized Windows Mobile interface that provides five home screen panels, including Web widget, favorite contact, program list and picture gallery screens, the Mondi boasts of a 3-megapixel camera on the back, and an HDMI out port for playing videos on a large-screen TV.
The company’s latest offering will be sold in the second quarter and apart from Clearwire, electronics retailer Best Buy Co Inc (BBY.N) would also be selling the device, said the company.
The handheld was unveiled on the eve of the CTIA annual showcase in Las Vegas but the price continued to remain unknown. |
