Telecom gear maker Ericsson has introduced a new broadband module, integrating three unique features to enhance performance of computers with 3G support.
The F3607gw, based on Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system, is capable of supporting connections to HSPA/ GPRS/ EDGE networks.
Additionally, it is also compatible with GPS and allows reduction in battery consumption by up to 50 percent.
However, its most exciting feature remain the ‘wake-on’ technology that lets users to set their PCs on sleep mode with a remote function and continues to function even when switched off as its connected to internet.
Besides, this technology also allows performs security function, like disabling the computer in case of theft, and when used in combination with embedded GPS capabilities, it can also enable operators to offer services such as security updates and asset protection and tracking.
“This module release confirms Ericsson''s commitment to making the benefits of connectivity available to everyone,” said Mats Norin, vice president of Ericsson Mobile Broadband Modules.
Ericsson has already been signed up HSPA mobile broadband modules into the computers of Dell, LG Electronics, Lenovo and Toshiba.
The module will be compatible with AT&T’s 3G network; it is believed that Ericsson will be soon out with a T-Mobile compatible version sometime in the near future.
The Ericsson F3607gw module will be priced at around $65 and will be available by June this year. |
