BSNL appears on verge of bounce back with 2.5 million additions in March
TT Corrrespondent |  New Delhi |  14 Apr 2009

The growth trajectory of Indian GSM operators in terms of new subscriber additions continues to head northwards. It started in December last year with 8.5 million additions

Followed by 9.6 million in January only to be overtaken by the March additions totaling 10.8 million.

The trends too have changed. Bharti Airtel finds itself at the number two spot in terms of most subscriber additions b an operator. Its 2.80 million fell short of Vodafone Essar’s 2.84 million.

State-run PSU too matched the footprints of its private counterparts as it registered 2.5 million new subscribers in March, a good number for the company after a long time. It is the first time that the company has managed to add more than 2 million subscribers in a single month. It may be remembered that BSNL had introduced India Golden 50 plan last month.

India’s GSM subscriber base now stands at 288.36 million at end of March compared to 277.51 million in February.
