Tata Indicom allows users to access Facebook via SMS channel

Tata Indicom today announced a new initiative enabling its subscribers to access popular social networking website, Facebook through SMS.

 

Its subscribers can now access the portal i.e. receive messages and notifications from Facebook in addition to reply back, send messages and set their Facebook status via SMS.

 

Zubin Jimmy Dubash, AVP, VAS, Tata Teleservices Limited said, “At Tata Indicom, it is has been our vision to provide ubiquitous access to all our services. We are truly excited to be the first operator in India to launch Facebook on SMS, a very addictive and useful feature for our subscribers to be in touch with their friends anytime, anywhere, and on any handset.”

 

“We’re very happy to be working with Tata Indicom to bring its customers a great Facebook experience, and give even more people around the world the opportunity to share and connect on Facebook through their  mobile devices,” said Henri Moissinac, Director of Mobile, Facebook.  “More than 30 million Facebook users currently access the site through their mobile devices. This number has quadrupled over the past year, and we expect it to grow as we continue to work with great operators, like Tata Indicom.”

 

Its subscribers need to register their phone numbers on Facebook or by sending an SMS to 51555. SMSes to this number will be charged Re.1.

 

Subscribers can also send their photos via MMS to Facebook.
