RCom’s GSM service in J&K under DoT scanner
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  04 May 2009

The DoT has sought Reliance Communications’ reply over the its recently launched mobile services based on the GSM platform in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

As per the DoT, RCom has failed to take clearance from the security agencies before the launch of the services. Mobile services in J&K assume prime importance for the security agencies due to the presence of insurgency in the region and use of communication services by militants.

The DoT has also pointed out to the issue that RCom has not responded to reminders from security agencies over the issue.

The DoT wants to know if the network of RCom is compliant to be monitored by security agencies.

RCom however claims that it has complied with all the rules and regulations for the launch of the services. According to the company, it already offers CDMA services in the region. It says it has deployed similar security measures for its GSM network as well.
