AUSPI opposes move to auction additional spectrum
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  12 May 2009

The Association of Unified Service Providers of India (AUSPI) has opposed the recommendation of the panel, appointed by DoT to look into the issues related to spectrum, wherein it was pointed out that henceforth allocation of additional spectrum be done through the auctioning mode.

AUSPI has termed the move as against the level playing field. In a letter to DoT, AUSPI said that such a move was not legally tenable, apart from being against earlier policies of DoT and recommendation of TRAI.

The industry body asked the DoT to ensure that operators are using spectrum efficient technologies. It called for introducing reward mechanisms for those using spectrum efficient technologies.

AUSPI also opposed the recommendation by the panel to impose a 3% uniform charge as levy for spectrum usage.
