Singtel records 35% growth in subscriber base for last fiscal

Singapore Telecommunications popularly known as Singtel reported a 35 % in subscriber additions for the fiscal ended March 31, 2009. 64 million new subscribers were added to the company''s fold in the year. On a quarterly basis the growth turns out to be 7.3 % with subscriber base at end of Dec'08 quarter standing at 232.42 million.

 

Indian partner Bharti reported a 52 % increase in subscriber base to reach 93.9 million. Singtel's JV in Indonesia, Telkomsel also grew well at 41 % growth to 72.13 million. Operations in Thailand under the name of AIS rose 10 % to 27.58 million. Globe Telecom Philippines reported a 21 percent increase in subscriber base to 25.74 million.

 

Pakistan operations under the name of Warid Telecom recorded a 21 % increase to 17.38 million while Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Ltd (PBTL) witnessed 20 % rise in subscribers to 1.87 million. Singtel's Australian subsidiary Optus saw 9.1 % increase in subscriber base to reach 7.79 million.

 

In home country, Singapore, the company added 405,000 new subscribers at 16  growth rate.

 

The company's total subscriber base now stands at 249.4 million.

 

The company is set to publish Q4 earnings on Thursday.
