Huawei Technologies claimed that it has been ranked as the No.1 global optical networking (ON) market leader for Q1 2009 by Ovum. Alcatel-Lucent which till now was the market leader had to be content with the No. 2 rank.
Post Q1, Alcatel-Lucent''s market share stood at 21.7 % while Huawei's followed with 19.1 % gaining 1.8 percentage points in Q1 and within 3 points of market leader Alcatel-Lucent.
Ovum said that Huawei's growth was fueled by 3G adoption by China as well as India telecom boom along with factors such as strong and stable currency and little exposure to North American market. In contrast Alcatel-Lucent's growth was down due to significant reliance on the North American market.
Huawei's revenues for the quarter for its optical business vertical stands at $ 700 million as per Ovum. The global ON market revenues were at $ 3.6 billion mainly on account of growth in Asia-Pacific region. It was at 15 % drop on sequential basis and * % drop as compared to figures for last year. |
