The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) asked the government to resolve the impasse surrounding the mode of further allocation of 2G spectrum in the country.
“The 3G guidelines announced by the Government prescribe for auction of 3G spectrum in blocks of 5MHz and further that not more than 1 block of 3G spectrum shall be allotted to any single bidder in a service area. Under these circumstances, it may be appreciated that 3G will invariably be offered as an overlay on an existing 2G network. Thus, 2G spectrum /networks will be the foundation on which the 2G/3G services will be offered. It may thus be difficult to ensure a correct and fair response to 3G auctions when the foundation layer of 2G spectrum is unclear and undecided,” said COAI. |
