The launch of iPhone 3G S not only shattered the earlier two records set by its precursors, but also scribbled a record sale that outstripped the normally heavy retail sales day like Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, and December 26th, the day after Christmas.
The launch day, 19th June, marked the "best-ever sales day" in the company''s retail stores and the second-largest traffic day in the stores, stated a memo dispatched to all AT&T employees.
Additionally, the company has attributed the latest iPhone for giving it the maximum number of transactions ever processed by its IT systems in a single day and the largest order day ever on att.com.
The new iPhone, though without any extraordinary enhancements, have sold out one million devices in its very first weekend, while it took Apple and AT&T about two and half months to sell the same.
With the exclusive contract between AT&T and Apple over iPhone set to expire next year, and with reported talks between Apple and Verizon making the rounds, fears of AT&T losing its exclusive contract (that has benefited it) is afresh. |
