Govt sets highly ambitious target of 100 mn internet subscribers by 2014

Minister of State for Communications and IT, Gurudas Kamat said that the government aims to achieve a 100 million internet subscriber base by 2014. HE was speaking at the ASSOCHAM Telecom Summit.

 

He said that the next phase of telecom evolution will be brought about by data connectivity services creating as many as three lakh jobs in rural India. HE added that Post Offices will be used to spread broadband uptake in rural India.

 

Industry players asked the government to consider frequencies in lower bands such as 500 MHz and 300 MHz for broadband use. They also called for use of 700 MHz except for coastal areas.
