KDDI awards $ 5.3 bn LTE Network contracts to Motorola, NEC

Japanese telecommunication operator KDDI Corporation said it has awarded contracts to Motorola Inc and NEC Corp., to deploy base stations and other equipments for its next generation mobile network.

 

As a part of the deal, the two companies will supply base stations and network gear for the carrier’s high-speed wireless network.

 

The network, which will be build using Long Term Evolution technology, will be at an investment of about 500 billion yen ($5.30 billion) and will be operational in December 2012.

 

KDDI rose 1 percent to 519,000 yen as of the 11 a.m. trading break on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while NEC added 0.3 percent to 323 yen.
