Credited with triggering a telecom revolution in the telecom industry related Research and Development activities in India, the country’s premiere R&D organization marked its silver jubilee of existence on August 25, 2009.
The Silver Jubilee event saw the presence of Shri Gurudas Kamat, Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications & IT, Shri Sam Pitroda, Chairman, National Knowledge Commission and Shri Siddhartha Behura, Secretary, Minister of Communications & IT, were the special guests in addition to other stalwarts associated with the organization as well as the industry.
Expressing his happiness, Mr. P.V. Acharya, Executive Director, C-DOT said, “We are very excited about reaching this quarter century milestone and today’s ceremony reflects the joys and challenges of C-DOT over the journey that we have undertaken in the past 25 years. C-DOT in all these years had been in the technology forefront and significantly contributed in the Indigenization of telecom technology, digitization, bridging the digital divide between urban and rural, establishing strong telecom manufacturing infrastructure and employment generation. We are proud to have dedicated our efforts in catalyzing and achieving self-reliance in the telecom sector, nation building and growth of our economy and wish to pursue with same spirit and vigor”.

Keeping in view the changing market scenario and related needs of the industry, the firm has now set its focus in four major directions namely the Projects of National and Strategic importance for the rural areas, the MAX-NG programme, projects for software intensive, Telecom solutions in the form of NMS and the Futuristic study projects like One Number.
The first project aims to enhance the relevance of shared GSM Radio Access Network for the rural segment. The MAX-NG programme is focused for the North Eastern region and aims to revive the fixed line infrastructure including VoIP and Broadband services.
The project on software intensive telecom solutions in the NMS domain promises to provide a common umbrella for management of a network equipped with products from diverse vendors and data clearing house centre for roaming based on ASP model.
C-DOT also plans to work on areas such as GPON (Gigabit Optical Passive Network) and NGN products and services. Additionally C-DOT’s futuristic projects such as One Number aim to utilize a unique identity number to be used as a mobile number. |
