South Korean company, Samsung Electronics, which is aggressively consolidating its position in the global mobile handset market, claims that its touch screen model Samsung Star (S5230) has witnessed 5 million units being sold within four months of the launch across the globe.
According to the company, more than 700,000 of the model were sold in May which scaled to 900,000 in June. And the popularity of the handset is growing manifold with 1.6 million units sold in July and August already registering 1.8 million unit sales. The model which began its launch from Europe had notched up one million sales within one and half month. And the model is particularly doing well in Europe with the region alone contributing as much as 2.8 million unit sales. Key markets for the model in Europe include France, UK, Netherlands and Italy.
“We’re very pleased by this success,” says Young-hee Lee, Vice President of Marketing, Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “We see the demand for touch screen phones increasing and we will continue to offer consumers a diverse range of products, supported by unique marketing campaigns.”
Samsung says that sales trend for the model in the Indian market are also healthy with the model contributing 60 % of the company’s sales of touch screen phone range. |
