Nortel said that it achieved success in its trials for 40 G optical technology which was conducted over Reliance Globalcom’s Atlantic cable FA1.
The trial was conducted over a 6000km submarine segment between the USA and the UK. Nortel says that it merely equipped the two ends of the cable network with its equipment and without replacing or upgrading the submarine cable or undersea repeaters it was able to demonstrate the ability to provide over two times the bandwidth capacity.
Additionally, the FA-1 cable was looped back to create a continuous 12,000 km segment.
"Nortel''s 40G technology provides the region's major broadband providers like Reliance Globalcom the means to supply their customers with the network scalability they need well into the future," says Hitesh Lokhandwala, managing director, Nortel India. "Put simply, this means a better service for both domestic and commercial users, and it enables the creation of additional revenue streams for providers by fast tracking their ability to sell additional bandwidth. With this milestone, Nortel reinforces its position as a lead contender in the resurgent submarine terminal market." |
