Datacom awards IT outsourcing contract to IBM
 |  |  18 Sep 2009

Datacom, after forging an agreement with Aircel for passive infrastructure sharing has now selected IBM as its IT outsourcing partner.

Tech Mahindra and HP were also in the race among others to bag this contract. IBM enjoys a good position in the IT outsourcing market within the Indian telecom space having multi-year contracts with Bharti Airtel and Idea as well apart from other contracts with most of the service providers.

As part of the deal with Datacom which is estimated to be valued at $ 200 million IBM will offer its Service Assurance solution which will provide service management, monitoring and management of critical services, application and network-based systems.

The outsourcing model not only helps firms to save on capex and other resources but for a new entrant like Datacom it reduces the time-to-market period.

Recently Tech Mahindra had bagged a similar contract from Etisalat.
