IPTV in India is currently being dominated by service providers offering the service over broadband network of state-run PSUs, BSNL and MTNL. But in a first of its kind by a private operator, India’s leading integrated service provider, Bharti Airtel is now getting aggressive on the IPTV front and is in fact positioning the service as part of its triple play offerings.
Airtel which offers its IPTV services in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida as part of its digital TV interactive service, has now launched two new packages for its subscribers. The Magic@Home Freedom 1MB triple play package priced at Rs 1,899 monthly rental offers broadband service at 1 Mbps. Another new package, Magic@Home Turbo package offers broadband speed of 512 kbps during normal hours and 1Mbps at night. This package is priced at Rs 1,499/-.
Vikas Singh, Chief Marketing Officer-Telemedia Services, Bharti Airtel, says, “Our two new packages at 1 mbps will open up new segments of the Triple Play market, attracting heavy broadband users who will not only get the benefit of higher bandwidth but also experience our IPTV service. The Magic@Home Freedom 1 MB and Magic@Home Turbo packages also mark our strategic intent of taking our Triple Play services to yet untapped sections of the market. Targeted at a niche audience, Airtel digital TV interactive continues to be appreciated for the truly interactive TV-viewing and Triple Play that it offers.”
Other packages available to subscribers include the Magic@Home Value plan offering 256 kbps speed and Magic@Home 384 plan offering 384 kbps speed.
Existing broadband subscribers who want to avail the IPTV services without changing their prevailing broadband plans, can do so by subscribing to Premium pack priced at Rs.399 monthly rental.
