On papers Indian mobile service providers are seen to be improving their delivery of services with the number of Point of Interconnection (PoI) having congestion gradually receding on a quarterly basis.
While in March 2009 the PoIs with congestion were at 76, the figure scaled down to 42 by June 2009. 27 PoIs had congestion levels at more than 5% as compared to 33 for March. PoIs with more than 10% congestion numbered 22 in June as compared to 24 in March.
PoIs with congestion level at more than 40 % were 3 in June as compared to 6 in June.
Aircel is seen having the highest number of PoIs with congestion at 20 followed by BSNL with 8 and Vodafone at 6. Idea which had 10 PoIs with congestion in April managed to rectify it to 1 by June 2009.
Circle-wise, Bihar had the most number of congested PoIs at 9 followed by UP-East at 7 and Orissa at 6.
