Desperate MTNL further reduces tariff for 3G services in Mumbai
TT Correspondent |  Mumbai |  02 Nov 2009

PSU MTNL today announced a tariff cut for its 3G services by introducing a new prepaid plan priced at Rs 109 and promising to offer 3G services at tariffs lower than 2G for voice as well as video calls.

Local voice and video charges will be 20 paise per minute for calls made to MTNL network and 50 paise per minute for calls made to other networks.

The voucher offers 25 minutes of free video call and 25 MB of free data usage as well as free talk time of Rs 25.

The Rs 109 price for the new voucher includes Rs 80 towards 3G SIM KIT and Rs 29 for recharge voucher. The plan offers lifetime validity.   The new plan in fact is named as ‘Prepaid 3G Jadoo and is a promotional offer to be available for 30 days.

The operator is facing tough time to attract subscribers to the 3G services fold. It had earlier offered lifetime validity to its subscribers in Delhi. It had also launched a free day 10 trial offer.

In August this year, Minister of State for telecom & IT Sachin Pilot had disclosed in the Rajya Sabha that MTNL had only 902 subscribers for its 3G services.
