The BSNL Employees Union (BSNLEU) came out strongly against a media report which said that the Prime Minister had called for a meeting involving Communications Minister and senior officers of BSNL to review the declining financial performance of BSNL. While it welcomed the initiative by the PM it cautioned against any move to privatize BSNL.
The Union rather blamed it on the delay in earlier tender for 44.5 million GSM lines. It took credit for the fact that if not for its insistence of atleast executing the tender by half than the originally decided number, the tender would have been altogether scrapped and the situation of the company would have been worse.
The Union also pointed out to recent reports of BSNL considering re-tendering as an option for the current tender involving 93.5 million GSM lines.
The Union refuted the report which said that wage structure was to blame for dwindling financial status of the firm. It pointed to the fact that the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission were implemented only for the top management with BSNL management deliberately delaying wage revision of Gr.C & D employees. |
