Power Grid in talks with BSNL for infrastructure sharing, says report

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) is in initial level talks with state PSU, BSNL to offer the latter telecom tower infrastructure services, reports Business Standard.

Power Grid is believed to have about 500,000 towers.

The report adds that the company is keen on entering into such contracts with other operators as well. Power Grid has telecom towers and a wide optical fibre cable network spread across the different regions of the country. It is also planning to roll-out additional 20,000 km of new optical fibre cables at an investment of Rs 150-Rs 200 crore.

The company is aiming to increase revenues from telecom vertical to Rs 500-Rs 600 crore by 2012 from present figure of Rs 150 crore. The company claims to have recorded a profit of Rs 10 crore from this vertical.
